I’ve always thought it comes down to the storytellers & geeks.

Geekery is there to enable storytelling. But they’re just as important.

The decision (by relatively few) to lead with ‘creative’ comes down to one thing, and always has – believing that engaging people in stories leads to more more successful brands, and that prodding with provocative creative wakes people up better than repetition or tricks.
