This is fun. Albeit slightly pointless fun.

The latest in our recent series of brilliant non-digital awesomeness (see also the incredible projection show in Kharkov & Target’s spectacular light show at the Standard Hotel in NYC).

French-Swiss artist Guillaume Reymond created this stop-motion video showing Pac-Man being played at a movie theater in Switzerland last month. The project had 111 patient volunteers sit, shift, and change shirts over the course of more than four hours.

This is the fifth video in Reymond’s GAME OVER project, in which he recreates classic arcade games with humans as pixels. See more here (including Pong, Space Invaders & Tetris).

  1. that’s not realistic at all.
when pacman gets nailed, he should have received a decent (real-looking) bitchslap

  2. A few generations from now, I wonder what they’re going to call this age we’re currently in.

You know – the one where people spend considerable amounts of time and energy (leisure time and creative energy) making things, for no better reason than just to see if they can. And art, of course.

It’s like Schoenberg and the Modernist movement, only amplified by the technological saturation of the masses and an unprecedented amount of leisure time.

Maybe it’ll be the Creationist age – where we saw a boom of creation for creation’s sake. Marked by the end of the download culture and the beginning of the upload culture.

In any case, fun stuff – I’m a fan of all of it. But a big part of me is ready for all of this energy to create something totally new – not re-renditions of things past.

    • Given that we’re currently burning up non-renewable resources with nothing to replace them, while simultaneously trashing the environment future generations will rely on. And that this is what we’re doing with the leisure this earns….

I suspect they might have other names for us :)
